Alice enjoys hiking, reading, and kayaking. She has a special love for palm trees and sandy beaches—and spending time with her six grown children, along with their partners and four busy grand-children. She currently lives in western Canada with bears, deer, and coyotes as her neighbors. Her favorite season is summer (the hotter, the better!) and she will never turn down cheesecake of any kind.

The Tale of a Starfish

Did you know that if you cut off all but one of a starfish’s arms—and damage 80% of its central disc—it will regenerate, growing back its missing limbs? The healing process can take a few months or even up to a year or more. It depends on the extent of the starfish’s injury and the availability of nutrients.

Can you see how this relates to your life? You may feel beyond repair, unable to imagine a future of wholeness. But God has other plans for you. Think of the starfish’s central disc as your soul—the tiny bit of you still clinging to him. Even with just a portion of its central disc and one remaining limb, the starfish can regenerate. God can do the same for you—not only restoring what was lost, but also blessing you with a new future you couldn’t have dreamed of.

Just like the starfish, your healing depends on nourishment. Surround yourself with resources such as friends who care, regular Bible reading and prayer, and a loving church. Watch your central disc and core trust in God grow, strengthen, and heal. Your starfish arms will grow back, and you will become new—the same person but different. You will be stronger and more able to embrace fresh dreams and goals. Then, one day, you will realize that you’re enjoying life again. Healed. Whole. Beloved. Valued. And blessed by God.
